Assistive Listening Headphones

                     Ram's Horn
We humans are a funny lot, for many centuries now, as our hearing has got progressively worse, we’ve increasingly sought to better hear what’s around us. In long gone days, a ram’s horn was not only useful to trumpet the attention of others, but as an aid to hear them too!

It wasn’t long before the “aurally challenged” realised that sheep (and
goats) were smart and probably nervous too and actually catching one and removing the horns was a task for a much younger and sillier person.

Then someone (what was that bright sparks name?), invented electricity and suddenly the birth of powered hearing assisting devices was imminent.

Eventually, it fell to a German chap by the name of Sennheiser (odd name that, almost as much as Boughen), to come up with even more seriously helpful products (that is with the design and development input of his many employees).  So, if your hearing is down a bit on what it used to be we’re offering help to hear the things you love … your favourite music, television programmes and, maybe, the better half asking for a cup of tea.

RS130-9 HeadphonesThere are a number of Sennheiser assistive hearing
products L.E. Boughen & Company can offer with either IR (infra-red) or RF (radio frequency) audio delivery. Some are simply to assist in hearing the TV or stereo better while some can act as an aid to better hearing. Be warned though, there are tricks to remember when it comes to choosing the best setup for your needs and that’s where we can help out.

  • Trick No.1 – IR vs RF.  This is possibly the most overlooked element when it comes to assessing your listening environment.  Fact: IR, that is infra-red, and sunlight do not mix. So, if your TV viewing area is bathed in Sol’s rays, then remember an RF-based system will suit you best.  Also, if you wish to experience freedom of movement around your home occasionally and still hear all the television action or glorious, crystal clear, stereo, Hi-Fi sound then RF is definitely for you.

  • Trick No.2 – Getting the Balance Right.  We only get one pair of ears and, unfortunately, they can often deteriorate at an uneven rate.  So, as we age, our hearing often becomes annoyingly unbalanced. This has been compensated for in the Sennheiser RS140-9 headphone system with a very clever balance control.

  • Trick No.3 – Surround Sound.  Here’s one of the many amazing features of the Sennheiser range of assistive listening products, the  Sennheiser RS130-9 headphones have a switchable surround sound listening mode so you can experience all the complete concert hall sound right there in your favourite chair.

  • Trick No. 4 – Turn Down Those Commercials.  Don’t you just hate the loudness of commercials on TV?  Now you can do something about it as the Sennheiser RS140-9 System will auto compensate for the loud passages of TV viewing and, what’s more, it’s self taught.

  • Trick No.5 – Hearing Loss Compensation. With the Sennheiser RS140-9 System, the headphones’ audio level can be adjusted to compensate for moderate hearing loss. While it’s not meant to replace hearing aid systems, this system does offer listening pleasure for the aurally challenged.
Ram's Horn - for left handed listeningOK, so there are the simple facts on Sennheiser Assistive Listening Systems.  We’ve tried to keep it as plain and simple as possible, but if you do have a question (or two) about the Sennheiser range, please email or call.
